Meisingers reopen popular Butch?s Diner in Tampa

Butch?s Diner, Tampa, reopened Sunday, Jan. 9, under the management of Marvin and Maggie Meisinger.

The Meisingers agreed to lease the diner from Phyllis Mueller when she approached them about it. She wanted to get out of the business and knew they had run it before.

?After discussing it for several weeks we decided to give it another try,? Marvin said.

The Meisingers had run the diner from October 1994 through February 1997.

They decided to quit running the dinner because it was becoming too much with their other jobs.

Maggie worked at the diner all week and at the David W. Wheeler Law Office in the afternoons, making her work seven days a week.

Marvin also was working full time with his farming and cattle was not able to help out at the diner much.

Since then, Marvin has scaled back on his farming and cattle.

?It?s not like I?m used to having free time,? Marvin said. ?I just feel I will have more time.?

He will be running the cafe during the week and Maggie will be helping out with the Sunday fried chicken.

In addition to Marvin and Maggie, they will have one full-time employee and two part-time employees over the noon hour.

The diner will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.

Marvin said they hope to extend their hours again in time and also plans to start staying open late one evening of the week eventually.

?We?re kind of trying to go into it a little slower instead of over-doing it,? Marvin said.

For the most part, the diner will be the same as it was previously.

?We felt like we had a good clientele before and we are not planning any major changes so we hope to get the same following,? Marvin said.

One of the changes in the diner will be the addition of a salad bar during the week and a daily special. There will still be the regular quick order items and Maggie will try to continue to make her homemade pies and rolls Marvin said she is popular for.
