LETTERS: Workbench was a gift of Harder family

ORIGINALLY WRITTEN BY CHRISTINE M. CONNOLLY – LAWRENCE
In your Dec. 22 issue, you ran two fine photos of a workbench built by pioneer Johann Harder that is now part of the collection at the Adobe House Museum.

I would like to point out that the name of Marvin Harder?s wife is Marlys, not Marilyn. She and Marvin were both born in Hillsboro, and Marlys grew up there as well.

The workbench was given to Marvin by his father almost 40 years ago. After he passed away in 1993, Marlys discussed the workbench with other members of Johann?s line and eventually decided to donate it to the Adobe House museum, since the surrounding region is where Johann Harder and the other members of the Gnadenau community originally settled.
