Katy and Kerry Magathan, Hillsboro, are the parents of the first baby reported to be born in Marion County in the new millennium.

Ethan David, was born at 9:37 a.m., Jan. 3 at the Magathan home.

He weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces and was 19 inches long.

Katy said she was not planning to have the first baby of 2000. It arrived when it needed to. ?When you get nine months along you don?t really care,? Katy said. ?I just wanted to meet my baby.?

He has two brothers, Kai James, 8, and Zachary Alan, 2, and two sisters, Sydney Lyn, 6, and Maia Ann, 4.

Katy said they made the choice to have their children at home after their first son was born in the hospital.

?We just felt God had intended something different for the birth experience,? Katy said.

She said she felt the experience should be more personal.

The Magathans have had two midwives help with the deliveries, but only one was able to be there this time because the second midwife could not arrive in time.

Grandparents are Jim and Darlene Magathan, Marion, and Mary and Murray Bransford, Wichita.
