Tanks for the memories

watertowerpics

Workers from Maguire Iron Inc. from South Dakota were in Hillsboro Friday to replace the lid and top two rings of the city’s small water tower with the help of a huge crane. The original lid was blown off during a windstorm in Septem?ber 2014. Repairs began earlier this year, but when workers discovered additional problems with the tank, the city decided to replace the top two rings as well as the lid. The project will cost $289,140, but because the tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the city received a Heritage Grant of $103,000 to offset some of the expense. The price includes a paint job, which city officials say will be delayed until spring.
