TC athletes receive All-KCAC honors

Eight members of Tabor College?s national-qualifying basketball teams have received all-KCAC honors from conference coaches.

Four members of the Tabor women?s squad have earned honors.

Senior guard/forward Tonisha Dean was a unanimous first-team selection. A member of the preseason team and a second-team pick a year ago, Dean is averaging 12.26 points per game heading into the national tournament on 46 percent shooting from the floor (135-297). She leads the Bluejays in scoring.

Sophomore forward Tena Loewen was named to the second team as well as the defensive team. A member of the preseason team, Loewen is averaging 7.17 points on 62 percent field goal shooting (66-106). She leads the Bluejays in rebounding, averaging 6.71 per game.

Sophomore guard Kaleigh Troxell was named to the third team. Troxell is averaging 8.71 points per game on 37 percent shooting (95-258).

Junior guard Kayla Wilgers received honorable mention. Wilgers is averaging 9.42 points per game while shooting 36 percent from the field (94-264). She ranks 43rd in NAIA Division II in total three-pointers made with 66.

Coach Shawn Reed was named Coach of the Year after leading the Bluejays to a KCAC regular season title with a 15-3 record.

As a team, Tabor leads the KCAC in scoring defense per game at 58.42.

Four members of the men?s team have received recognition.

Senior forward Andrew Thomas was a unanimous first-team selection. A member of the preseason team, Thomas received second-team honors a year ago.

Heading into the national tournament, Thomas leads the Bluejays in scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 15.63 points per game on 59 percent shooting from the field (168-284), and averages 7.73 rebounds per game. He leads the KCAC in field goal percentage.

He ranks 13th in NAIA Division II in field goal percentage, 39th in rebounds per game, 40th in offensive rebounds per game (2.73) and 40th in total rebounds (232).

Junior guard Malik Brooks was a unanimous third-team pick. He is averaging 13.55 points per game while shooting 39 percent from the field (136-351). Brooks ranks 14th in total three-pointers made (91) and 15th in threes made per game (2.94).

Senior guard Dewayne Biggs and sophomore guard/forward Lance Carter received honorable mention.

A member of the second team a year ago and a preseason team pick, Biggs is averaging 12.9 points per game while shooting 51 percent from the field (128-250). He leads Tabor in assists with 109 and averages 3.63 per game.

A member of the preseason team, Carter is averaging 12.92 points per game on 55 percent shooting (57-104). He has tallied 100 rebounds (7.69 per game) and 94 assists (7.23 per game).

Coach Micah Ratzlaff was named Coach of the Year, having led the Bluejays to a KCAC regular season title with a 15-3 record.

As a team, Tabor leads the KCAC in field goal percent offense with 48.2 percent.
