The Centre golf team has no seniors out and has fewer than half the numbers it had last year, according to Greg Wyatt, head coach.
“We had 16,” he said, “and this year we are down to seven—four boys and three girls. It’s going to be a rebuilding year for the squad.”
Centre placed fourth as a team in the Class 1A regional tournament in 2011.
Wyatt’s only two returning letter-winners this spring are junior Dylan Svitak and sophomore Kodey Johnson.
Svitak came in 28th at regionals with a 108 and Johnson was 30th at 116.
With only a handful of practices so far, Wyatt said the game plan is simple.
“We need to work on getting better each day and improve the short game and putting,” he said. “We need to keep the ball on the fairway, play smart and not get into trouble.”
The Cougars are scheduled to kick off their season April 3 with a tournament at Herington.
