Last year the boys took third in their league and the girls took fourth.

“Three golfers qualified for state, and three seniors and one sophomore were last year’s Heart of America League champions.”
Last year, Goessel was classified as a Class 2A school, but will now compete as a 1A school. “Moving down (in classification) will actually help us,” he said.
Coup said he believes he has a solid team this year.
“We have some people who decided to go out this year who were out for track last year,” he said, adding that this should strengthen the team.

“We’ve got a good young group,” Schroeder said. “They’re young—talented, but young. If we can get them all pulling together in the same direction early on, I think we’ll have a chance to be pretty successful.”
The Warriors also have several players returning, including three sophomores (Austin Pedersen, Jacob Harper, and Ethan Hett) and two upperclassmen (junior Cole Lewman and senior Corey Seacat).

Marion softball will mix experience with new talent

“We have six seniors who are pretty solid and have experience,” said coach Jill Hudson, who returns with assistant coach Chad Atkins. “I expect good things out of them, and a lot of leadership from the seniors.”
Hudson mentioned senior Erin Brown, a transfer this year from Wichita, as a player who will make significant contributions to the team.
“She brings a lot of experience, she brings a lot of positive leadership,” Hudson said. “She really fell into that leadership role well.”

“We’re really looking forward to this year,”coach Grant Thierolf said. “We think we’ve got some young kids who are poised to break out, and have good years.
“We have so many new kids, so many young kids,” he added. “We graduated so much experience last year at the state level.”
Thierolf said he is confident the team will be pretty solid in all the events this year, thanks to good depth in most of them.
