The Peabody-Burns golf team has three returning letter-winners in senior Thomas McGee and juniors Brian Wingert and Joseph Zappone. The Warriors also have a former letter-winner—Travis Pohlman—who rejoins the squad after a one-year hiatus.

Numbers low but aspirations high for CHS track team

The Centre High School track team, though short on both numbers and experience, has high aspirations headed into the new season.

Centre has 12 boys participating, eight of whom throw in one or more event.

Michael Kaiser, the only senior for the boys, is one of two distance runners on the team.

Remnant of state runner-up team to lead GHS in '08

The returning seniors and letter-winners are: back row (from left), Travis Fensky, Anthony Esau, Craig Banman, Weston Hiebert, Cameron Stultz, Grady Stultz; front row, Aleesha Hines, Kristen Hoffman, Aspen Frey.

The Goessel High School track squad and first-year coach Curtis Guhr have intact a strong remnant of the 2007 regional champion boys’ squad that placed second at state.

With the graduation of Sheldon Goerzen, Brett Goerzen and Garrett Hiebert, the Bluebirds will be face a steep challenge to reach those same lofty heights.

Four letter-winners to lead GHS golf toward state goal

All are seniors except Schmidt, who is a sophomore.

Coming off a sixth-place finish at the Class 1A state meet, the Goessel High School golfers have four returning senior letter-winners at the top of the roster.

The team, headed by Nathan Ensz and Derek Brown, has 18 on the roster, and is a expected to be deep and highly competitive by coach Greg Bontrager.

Ensz placed 10th individually as the team claimed second at the league meet, and Brown placed 10th as the team took...

Qualifying athlete for state is hope of CG track coach

Canton-Galva High School track coach Lyle Silsby comes into spring with the hope that the new season will see at least one Eagle qualify for state competition.

Silsby said that the regionals last year were disappointing on account of not having a state qualifier. Contending with limited numbers, Silsby also said relays will be hard to put together and will “mainly be for fun.”

But several Eagles have a chance to be competitive...
