Tabor soccer teams preparing to exceed preseason rankings

TCmSoccerMassonsoccer Robert Masson, a first-team All-KCAC pick last season, returns to lead the Bluejays in 2011. The Tabor College men’s and women’s soccer teams hope to continue their climb up the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference ladder this season.

TC volleyball aiming for nothing less than a title

The Bluejays, who benefit from the experience of nine seniors, added nine freshmen to this year’s squad. The team was ranked second in the KCAC coaches’ preseason poll behind last year’s champion, Friends University.

The Bluejays lost in the KCAC semifinals last season, finishing with a 16-15 overall record and a 12-6 mark in the conference.

Tabor started their season Aug. 26 at Oklahoma City, losing to Oklahoma City University and defeating College of the Ozarks. The Bluejays will begin conference play Sept. 7 at Ottawa.

Bluejays ready to climb the ladder in tough KCAC

The Tabor Bluejays, ranked sixth in the Kansas Colle­giate Athletic Conference preseason poll, have their work cut out for them in the toughest KCAC line-up yet.

“As long as the conference stays strong like it is now, it’s going to be a climb,” said coach Mike Gardner, who is returning for the second year of his second stint at Tabor.

The Bluejays will try to improve on a 4-6 overall record and a 3-5 conference mark when they kick off their season Sept. 3 in a non-conference game at Lawrence against Haskell Indian Nations University.

Gardner said he is not concerned about statistical achievements right now as much as a healthy team mentality and the right combinations of players.
