GHS volleyball team returns with 7 letters

Coming off an 18-20 season (4-7 in the Heart of America league) Crysta Guhr’s Goessel High School volleyball team will have seven returning letter-winners.
The group includes seniors Rinda Duerksen, Amy Brubaker, juniors Aspen Frey, Jessica Goertzen, Karina Harvey and Karis Janzen and sophomore Kendra Flaming.
Guhr will look for Harvey to hold down the libero duties and for Goertzen to take care of the setting, freeing the others...

Last fall, the Goessel High School boys’ varsity placed third at regionals, ninth at state and this year returns four state runners.
Coach Greg Bontrager anticipates that sophomore Laird Goertzen, senior Anthony Esau and juniors Isaac Fast and Chad Wedel will lead GHS this year.

The Goessel High School football team lost three seniors from the 8-2 league championship squad of 2007, but it returns six offensive and five defensive starters for the 2008 season.
It will be Justin Coup’s sixth year coaching the Bluebirds, a span in which he has compiled a 33-18 record.
The roster will be smaller this year, but Coup will get the most out of what he called “a very talented sophomore, junior and senior class.”

With returning letter-winners Leann Pankratz, Bridgette Burns and Carlye Simons, the Centre High School volleyball team looks to recover from the graduation of three starters with a mid-pack finish in the Eisenhower League.
