The Canton-Galva track team returns two seniors this year to lead an underclassmen-heavy squad of 12.

?We are a small team, having to split kids with softball and baseball,? coach Kelly Unruh said. ?But the kids we have are incredibly hard workers, and they give us everything they have.?

Seniors Justin Hiller and Darci Enns return to run middle distances for the Eagles.

?Both seniors are great leaders for the younger kids, and they bring a strong work ethic to the team as well,? Unruh said.

Junior Eli Janzen will be back to run distance and fellow junior Clayton Boaz will throw for CGHS.

Sophomore Trevor Unruh will contribute in the field events?javelin and shot put?and also run the 800 meters.

Classmate Austin Bullinger is expected to compete in the triple jump, 400 meters, 300-meter hurdles and the 4×800.

Sophomores Cole Svode will throw the shot put and Ally Smiley will be doing the triple jump, 100-meter hurdles and some sprints.

The Eagles bring in four freshmen who are expected to contribute. Trey Moddelmog will compete in the triple jump and sprints, Katie Diel will run distance, Krystal May will run the 100-meter hurdles and sprints and Rachel Becker will run sprints.

?Our main goal for the season is to improve every meet and to get as many athletes to regionals as we can,? coach Unruh said. ?Practices have us very hopeful for the season. We look forward to a very enjoyable year.?

The Eagles are scheduled to compete first at Moundridge April 6, beginning at 4:30 p.m.
