The Canton-Galva track team will bank on team unity and greater numbers to find success this season.
“Our goal this season is to have all athletes continue to work and improve in their personal bests throughout the season,” coach Kelly Unruh said.
He added that he also wants “to have as many athletes as possible reach qualifying standards (for state) in their events.”
The Eagles will have some young blood contributing to the team this year. Canton-Galva has seven freshmen out for track this season. Unruh said he expects them to help this year’s squad.
“We have struggled with numbers in the past,” Unruh said. “We have a few more out this year, allowing for the possibility of having a couple of relay teams.”
Unruh said he was not sure which schools would prove to be their biggest challengers this season, but that with the relatively small size of the Eagles, every team makes for difficult competition.
“Our biggest strength is we have a good group of kids who get along really well and support one another,” Unruh said.
