A young Peabody-Burns cross-country team is looking to make tracks toward individual success this season.
“The season will be one of individual efforts,” said coach Kim Topham, who moves up from assistant coach to take over the reins.
“We do not have enough boys or girls to make a team, so we will focus on improving individual times and performances,” she said.
Topham said the younger runners will be able to participate more easily in the junior varsity races, giving them the opportunity to get used to the distance.
The Warriors return one runner to the boys’ squad, senior Zach Preheim. Three new runners are on board: Ryeder Gonzalez, Jayden Huchison and Christian Chastain.
The girls bring back a bit more experience, with Mackenzie Young and Lily Harris returning. They also added newcomer Angelica Winsor.
“I am excited to coach again this year and see what the season brings,” Topham said.
The Warriors will have their first chance to prove themselves Aug. 30 at the Clearwater Invitational.
