Fans who pay attention to the divisional or league standings of their favorite team in the new Mid Central Activities Association may need a scorecard to keep up with the different scenarios that apply to various activities.

Here?s a summary.

FOOTBALL:

The goal can be summed up in the phrase: ?Pick on someone your own size.? In general, the smallest schools will compete against each other in the Mid Division, and the big ones do the same in the Central Division.

Hillsboro and Lyons buck a ?clean? separation of big and small in order to nurture natural rivalries.

Only divisional games count as ?league games.?

Mid Division

Ellinwood Eagles

Halstead Dragons

Hoisington Cardinals

Lyons Lions

Marion Warriors

Sterling Black Bears

Central Division

Haven Wildcats

Hesston Swathers

VOLLEYBALL:

Prior to this 2007 season, the scheduling emphasis was on reducing travel time because dual matches are usually played on Tuesday, a school night. Instead of ?Mid? and ?Central? divisions, the two divisions were identified as ?East? and ?West? and teams were grouped accordingly.

This year, in response to a change in the way the Kansas State High School Activities Association figures its participation limits for volleyball, the league is moving from a duals format?two matches against the same opponent on a given night?to a triangular or quadrangular format.

At each event a school will play two of the three or four schools participating. The change will enable a school to play each of the 11 other MCAA teams each season and all schools compete for one title. Divisions have been scrapped.

Basketball teams compete in a single league. Some schools will meet twice a year, but only one of those games will count as a ?league game.?

all other sports, except those that have an annual all-league competitive event, the schools will compete in East and West divisions based on geography. Only divisional contests count toward ?league standings.?

Hesston Swathers

Marion Warriors
