The Hillsboro High School boys' and girls' basketball teams both registered big wins Tuesday night against Ellinwood in an MCAA match-up at Brown Gymnasium. The girls defeated the Eagles, 70-38, and the boys won, 56-47. The girls (11-2) used a big first-half run to cruise to the comfortable win behind 17 points from Angela Kroeker. The Trojans also got a big lift from Angela Herzet, who came off the bench to score 15 points. The Hillsboro boys had a harder time against Ellinwood, but clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch helped the Trojans amass a nine-point lead in the final minute, which the Trojans defended. Grant Brubacher led Hillsboro (9-4) with 22 points, hitting four 3-pointers and shooting perfect from the free-throw line. Nathan Fish came off the bench to score 13 points, a season high. Hillsboro played their third straight game without senior Tyson Ratzlaff, who continues to nurse a sore foot.
