In Class 1A Division 1, two Goessel players received all-state recognition from the Kansas Volleyball Association.
Senior Tia Goertzen, a 5-7 outside hitter, was named to the second team while Alex Hiebert, a 5-10 senior middle blocker, received honorable mention.
Goertzen, who led Goessel in kills and attack percentage this season, has been a first-team selection for Wheat State League honors the past two years and was a second-team pick her sophomore year.
“She also was our best overall passer and is a very positive leader by example,” coach Crysta Guhr said.
Hiebert, meanwhile, was a first-team all-league pick this year, second-team pick in 2011 and received honorable mention as a sophomore.
“She led our team in kill percentage and could literally take over games with her blocking,” Guhr said. “She was our vocal leader this year.”
The Bluebirds finished the season with a 29-10 record. They played for the sub-state title and a second straight state berth, but lost to Olpe, the eventual state champion.
