Marion’s Jordan Hett placed sixth against the state’s strongest competition Saturday at the Class 3A state meet at Rim Rock Ranch near Lawrence.
The senior bettered his last 2011 time by 30 seconds by finishing in 16 minutes, 45 seconds.
“Everyone ran really hard,” coach Rebecca Hofer said. “The course was really challenging with several very large hills.”
Hett led the boys’ team to an eighth-place finish to conclude the season.
Joining Hett for the Warriors were Patrick McCarty (35th, 18:02), Timothy Knolla (50th, 18:31), Jacob Cope (55th, 18:39), Clark Kroupa (94th, 20:23), Jared Hague (98th, 21:13) and Quinton Hett (99th, 21:24).
Hofer said if her runners this year had run the same time last year, then Hett, McCarty and Knolla would have finished first, 20th and 30th in 2011.
“That just shows you the increase in competition and the quality of runners the boys ran against this year,” said Hofer.
