Marion boys tie for top honors

The Marion girls and boys track teams put together strong performances at the Hesston Invitational Thursday to springboard them to success at the Heart of America league meet this Friday.
The boys’ team shared the top spot out of 11 schools with Garden Plain, garnering 79 points, and the girls took fourth with 72 points.
Senior Dakin Ledford earned two golds for the boys’ team in the throws with a mark of 128 feet, one inch in the discus and a toss of 166-07 in the javelin.
Claiming silver for Marion was Nick Meyer in th discus (126-10), Jordan Hett in the 1,600-meter run (4:43) and the 4x400 relay team of Patrick McCarty, James Jones, Brody Carroll and Colten Johnson (3:34). McCarty took bronze in the 400 dash (52.26).
On the girls’ side, Alicia Maloney set the bar with a gold in the pole vault (8-6). Earning second were Kadecha Gueary in the long jump (15-5), Corey Shields in the shot put (34-02), Katey Ehrlich in the 300 hurdles (49.85) and Whitney Gordon in the high jump (5-0).
Bronze medalists included Kelli Hess in the long jump (15-3) and Gordon in the 100 hurdles (16.35).
Coming —The Warriors are scheduled to compete at the Heart of America league meet at Bethel College Friday.
