HHS tennis comes in third at Sterling

The Hillsboro tennis team placed third among four teams at Sterling April 10.
The host team won the round-robin format with 26 points. Hesston followed with 17, Hillsboro 10 and Ellsworth 7.
In singles, Grant Shewey and Harry Faber both went 2-1 for the afternoon. In No. 1 singles, Shewey defeated Collin Martin of Hesston 8-5 and Tommy Tripp of Ellsworth 8-1, then lost 8-0 to Edo Martelli of Sterling.
In No. 2 singles, Faber defeated Isaac Penner of Hesston 8-5 and Kyeeton Soukup of Ellsworth 8-2 before losing to Taylor Fair of Sterling 8-3.
In No. 1 doubles, Daniel Gray and Jeff Pritchard lost to Wesley Wilder and Zachary Baldauf of Hesston 8-4, Taylor Bachan and Josh Bahr of Ellsworth 8-5 and Keaton Prather and Seth Humphreys of Sterling 8-5.
Ty Carey and Tyler Funk lost in No. 2 doubles by identical 8-1 scores to J.D. Hershberger and Nolan Casimir of Hesston, Angus Duton and Tyler Lamb of Ellsworth, and Cameron Fair and Caleb Hendricks of Sterling.
“Everyone continues to improve,” coach Stuart Holmes said. “For some it just means they are winning more games in their matches.
“Grant and Harry continue to be especially competitive as both were 2-1 on the day to earn the second-place medal in their division.”
Coming—The meet scheduled for April 12 at Circle was rescheduled for Monday, April 16. The following day, the Trojans were scheduled to host the Trojan Invitational.
The next event is April 24, when Hillsboro will compete at the Hesston Invitational with matches starting at 10 a.m.
