For Hillsboro (14-8), seniors Suzy Lindsay, outfielder, and Jenesa Klose, pitcher, were both selected for the first team. Lindsay’s batting average of .463 was second highest for the Trojans, and her number of hits (19) tied her with Klose for second highest.

Led by the versatile Julia Zeiner, the Marion girls tied for fourthin the Class 3A team competition this past weekend in Wichita.
Thesophomore standout won one individual silver medal and two bronze, thenteamed with Kayley Heerey, Kristen Steinborn and Danae Edwards to wingold in the 4x100.
Ryan Jones runs the third leg of the third-place MHS 4x800 relay.
The foursome posted the third-best qualifying time on Friday by circling the Cessna Stadium track in 51.08. On Saturday, they came back to run a 50.65, edging Southeast of Saline by 0.32 seconds.

Two area athletes had outstanding days at the state meet this past weekend in Wichita.
Peabody-Burns’ standout freshman Lauren Pickens swept the 100, 200 and 400 races in Class 2A while Goessel’s Craig Banman won the 200 and 300-meter hurdles, was third in pole vault and anchored the gold-medal winning 4x400 team.
Pickens sprinted to relatively comfortable wins in all three of her races. She posted the second fastest time in the preliminaries of the 100 at 12.58, which was a scant 0.08 seconds behind Whitney Taylor...

The Hillsboro boys didn’t bring home a gold medal, but a cache of six silver medals propelled the Trojans to a second-place team finish at the Kansas High School Track & Field Championships this weekend in Wichita.
Scott City, led by a pair of gold medals by middle-distance ace Trace Kendricks and hair-breadth victories in two relay showdowns with Hillsboro, won the Class 3A title with 82 points. HHS rolled up 55 to edge late-season nemesis Garden Plain by two points.

State track 2008 scheduleFollowing is a composite schedule for area athletes competing at the 2008 Kansas Track & Field Championships this weekend at Cessna Stadium on the Wichita State campus. Included are the five schools in the Free Press distribution area that qualified athletes in their respective classes: Centre (C) and Goessel (G) in Class 1A; Peabody-Burns (PB) in Class 2A; and Hillsboro (H) and Marion (M) in Class 3A.FRIDAY
All races are preliminaries unless otherwise indicated; all field events are finals. Large schools (4A, 5A, 6A) compete in the morning; small schools will compete in this order: 1A, 2A, 3A.
