Hillsboro baseball team drops doubleheader to Kingman

Defensive mistakes proved to be Hillsboro’s Achilles’ heel as the Trojans dropped a baseball doubleheader Friday at Kingman, 12-11 and 11-8.The sweep evened Hillsboro’s record at 3-3 for the season.
Game 1 was particularly frustrating as the Trojans built an 8-3 lead after 31⁄2 innings behind the pitching of Jordan Faul. But a pair of errors contributed to a four-run rally in the bottom of the inning on only one hit.

Marion baseball wins 8th straight

The Marion baseball team kept its win streak alive with two shutout victories over Clay Center Friday to boost its season record to 8-0. The doubleheader at Canton-Galva scheduled for last Tuesday was postponed because of weather.Clay Center—The Warriors coasted to victory in Marion Friday night in two games originally scheduled to be played at Clay Center but moved to Marion because of a wet field.
“We did a very good job in both games,” coach Roger Schroeder said. “We actually played our first errorless doubleheader of the year.”
Playing as the visitors, Marion won Game 1, 13-0, using a five-run first inning to take control of the game from the start, and building up to 13 runs over the course of five innings.

Canton-Galva—The Eagle baseball team traveled to Bennington Tuesday, dropping both games of the doubleheader to the Bulldogs.In Game 1, Canton-Galva scored five runs in the second inning and three in the fifth, but the effort was not enough to hold off a 13-9 Bulldog victory.
Ryan Grant knocked out one hit that batted in three runs. Chris Miller had one hit and two RBIs, while Connor Farnham contributed three hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, Farnham was starting and losing pitcher. Jacob Dailey came in to pitch two innings of relief.
The Eagles dropped the second game, 15-5.
Jacob Struber and Miller each knocked out one hit that produced two RBIs. Tanner Klingensmith had one hit, one run and one RBI.

Centre—A short-handed Centre track and field team competed at Marion Friday with only five athletes—all underclassmen—participating as a majority of the Centre athletes were attending the Kansas State FBLA Convention in Topeka.Brenna Shields was the only Cougar to place at the meet with a third-place finish in long jump (15 feet).
The Cougars competed at Hillsboro Tuesday, where both the girls’ and boys’ teams placed third.
Two athletes paved the way for the Cougar girls with first place finishes: Anna Weber in the long jump (14-11) and Cassidy Hill in javelin (82-3).

Loewen signs with Tabor for two sports

Hillsboro High School senior Tena Loewen signed a letter of intent Friday to play basketball and volleyball next year at Tabor College. The 5-foot-11 outside hitter was a first-team all-league performer in volleyball the past three years and a first-team all-state selection the past two seasons as she led the Trojans to consecutive Class 3A titles. During her four years as a starter, Hillsboro compiled a 142-31 record with four state appearances. In basketball, Loewen received all-league recognition all four seasons, including a place on the first team her final three. Loewen missed about half of her junior season with a knee injury, but the Trojans went to state all four years, finishing third the past three trips. The Trojans...
