Marion Harriers place 3rd at Peabody

The Marion High School cross country team ran at Peabody last Thursday. Three girls medaled and three others set personal best times in the varsity race.Camille Christensen turned in the top time for the Warriors, finishing 10th in 17 minutes, 31 seconds. Amanda Richmond finished 12th in 17:34 and Jaclyn DeForest was 20th in 18:01.
Brooke Johnson (22nd, 18:03), Tacy Taylor (15th, 18:15), Bridgett Lundy (34th, 19:10) and Lucy Collett (43rd, 20:50) rounded out the top seven.

MHS Volleyball team plays home tourney

The Marion volleyball team hosted its home tournament Saturday, going 0-3 in pool play against Eureka (25-22, 20-25, 25-16), Sedgwick (25-19, 25-14) and Wichita Collegiate (27-25, 25-18).“We won the first game by playing solid defense and aggressive hitting in our front row,” coach Jim Versch said. “I really felt at this team had a made a 180 from the start of the season and was really beginning to play as a team and beginning to play volleyball.
“We lost the next game 20-25, again key mistakes at the end of the game that crushed our chances of pulling out a win,” he said. “We couldn’t regroup in the third game and actually missed three serves in a row to allow them an easy finish and match win.

Canton-GalvaAfter running well at Stafford on Thursday, the Eagles got some goodnews this week, with Nathan Bray being medically cleared to run in thenext race. Bray had been out with a broken arm.
Riley Nigh finished in 28th place at Stafford with a time of 22:26 in the upperclassmen race.
Tad Wedel (29th, 23:21), Nick Skiles (37th, 24:07), Sam Janzen (46th, 25:49) and Codey Johnson (53rd, 28:29) all ran the underclassmen race.
“Tad is coming along,” coach Lyle Silsby said. “He improved over a minute from last week and we hope to see continued improvement.”
Nigh improved his time by 45 seconds.
In the underclassmen girls’ race, Michelle Shannon placed 15th and medaled with a 4-kilometer time of 24:47.

Canton-GalvaThe Eagle volleyball team finished second to Sedgwick at the Marion triangular Saturday.
Sedgwickhad defeated Canton-Galva in three games at the Goessel tournament aweek earlier, and the teams played another close match at Marion.
In the championship match, the Eagles won Game 1, 25-11, but Sedgwick rallied for a 25-18 win in Game 2. The rubber game then went to Sedgwick, 25-16.
Canton-Galva swept through pool play despite an injury to Allie Enns, who returned to the lineup for bracket play. In pool play, Canton-Galva beat Halstead (25-18, 25-18), DeSoto (20-25, 25-11, 25-23) and Centre (25-13, 25-14).
CGHS defeated Eureka (25-15, 25-17) to advance to the title match.

A three-touchdown explosion in the second quarter turned a potential repeat into a rout as Hillsboro rolled to a 48-13 win at Haven on Friday.
The Trojans actually trailed 7-6 after the first quarter in a game that was following an eerily similar storyline to last week’s overtime loss at Nickerson.
