Goessel

The Bluebirds torched Remington 69-47 Friday with four Goessel starters finishing in double figures.

Austin Unruh scored 7 points in a 14-10 first quarter and finished with 15.


Unruh and Nathan Ensz each scored 5 points in the second quarter—a 14-6 frame for the Bluebirds. Ensz finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

Eagle selects area football athletes

Four members of the Hillsboro High School football team received all-class recognition by the Wichita Eagle.

Spencer Brown, a 5-foot, 10-inch senior, was named to the Class 3A first team as a defensive back.

Receiving honorable mention were junior Daniel Jost at receiver, junior John Hein at offensive line and senior Jacob Yoder at running back.

Other area athletes to be recognized were: Canton-Galva senior Andrew Westbrook, honorable mention Class 2-1A linebacker; and Goessel athletes, junior Craig Banman, first team eight-man kicker, junior Austin Unruh, honorable mention quarterback, and sophomore Weston Hiebert, honorable mention wide receiver.

Bobbi Jo Carlson, a setter on Hillsboro High’s 31-6 league-champion volleyball team, signed a letter of intent Wednesday to compete at Hesston College next fall. MCAA fetes 5 Trojans, 9 Warriors

Five members of Hillsboro High’s bi-district champion football team have received all-league recognition from the coaches of the Mid-Central Activities Associa­tion’s Central Division.

Nine Marion Warriors were recognized by the coaches of the MCAA’s Mid Division.

For Hillsboro (6-5), who finished fifth (1-4) in the six-team large-school Central Division, four players filled six first-team positions.

Senior Jacob Yoder was a unanimous pick at two spots: offensive back and punter.

Spencer Brown was a unanimous pick at defensive back and a first-team pick at quarterback. The senior also received honorable mention as a kick returner.

HHS gets four all-MCAA picks

Four members of Hillsboro’s league-champion volleyball team have received all-league recognition from the coaches of the Mid-Central Activities Association.

Marion was represented on the all-league list by two sophomores.

Representing the Trojans (31-6) on the first team are sophomore outside hitter Dakota Kaufman, one of four unanimous picks, and senior outside hitter Amy Neufeld.

Senior Chelsea Bebermeyer received second-team honors as an opposite hitter and senior Amanda Bina received honorable mention as a libero and defensive specialist.

For Marion (8-23), outside hitter Julia Zeiner was picked for the second team and middle hitter Kayley Heerey received honorable mention.

Hillsboro won the league title with a 10-1 mark...
