The Marion High School girls basketball team outscored Hoisington 7-5 in the extra session of Friday's 54-52 overtime win.
The girls got 17 points from Julia Zeiner and overcame a 29-20 halftime deficit to force overtime.
“We didn’t panic,” coach Randy Savage. “We were down eight or nine, and the girls fought their way back into it.”
“Earlier in the season, they wouldn’t have been able to handle the pressure,” he added. “That wouldn’t have happened early in the season.”

The Marion High School boys topped Hoisington 61-58 in Marion Friday.
Calvin Jeffrey scored 17 points, none bigger than the pair of foul shots he buried with 27 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The free throws extended a 59-58 lead enough to force the Cardinals to play away from the strength of their interior offense in the final moments.
Hoisington had battled back from a 34-26 halftime deficit to tie the game at 49-all with 6:08 remaining.

An 88-46 loss to Northern Heights capped off a busy week of basketball played by Cody Schafer’s squad.
The Cougars lost to Word of Life 65-59 after carrying a 47-41 leadinto the fourth quarter on Jan. 7. James Weber scored 20 points in thegame.
Centre turned around and pasted Hope 77-45 the following night. Trevor Troutt scored 18 points, and Zach Slayden and Weber each had 17.
The game of the week was a 58-54 overtime triller against Herington. The score was tied at 48-48 after regulation, and Slayden tipped the final score in the Cougars’ favor with 5 points during a 10-6 run in overtime.
Slayden and Troutt each scored 15 points against the Railers.
