The four teams from Marion County dominated the 11-team Marion Invitational April 29, finishing 1-2-3-4, with fourth-place Centre 33 strokes better than fifth-place Sacred Heart.Centre (361) just missed out on third place, finish five behind Peabody-Burns (356). Goessel (346) took second. Marion (336) defended its home turf behind a 77 from individual champion Luke Gordon.

The Hillsboro boys, posting six event wins, won the James Thomas Invitational track meet Friday at North Newton.

The Trojans won the opener 3-0 behind a one-hitter by pitcher Jenesa Klose.
Game 2 was tied at 2-2 through two innings when the Trojans erupted for three runs in the third. Amanda Bina, Suzy Lindsay, Dianne Sanders and Jenesa Klose each chipped in singles and the Lions added two errors to the mix to fuel the rally.
Lyons scored its third and final run in its next at-bat, but the Trojans pulled away with two runs in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Marion grabs four golds at Beloit Relays

With the bulk of the squad facing top-shelf 3-4A competition in Beloit Friday, the Marion High School track teams managed four first-place finishes. At the forefront of the Warriors scorers on the girls side were Kalaya Jackson and Julia Zeiner, who placed first in the long jump and triple jump, respectively.The boys also struck gold in the triple jump, as Tylor Neil notched a mark of 40-51⁄2 in the event.
The Warriors 4x800 meter relay continued to excel, with a first-place time of 8:46.28 on the strength of a 2:09 third leg by Ryan Jones. Adam Regnier, Charlie Holub and Justin Heidebrecht took care of the rest of the race.

Hillsboro fifth in MCAA tourney

Hillsboro finished fifth at the Mid-Central Activities Association league tournament Monday at the Sports Complex in Hillsboro.Wichita Collegiate won the title with 77 points, followed by Smoky Valley with 69, Hesston 61, Sterling 44, Hillsboro 32, Ellinwood 30, Hoisington 29, Nickerson 13 and Haven 5.
Clay Shewey took fifth in No. 1 singles. He lost 6-1, 6-1 in the first round to Mike Jaderston of Sterling, then defeated Chaffin of Haven 9-0 and Ethan Thomas of Ellinwood 9-5.
In No. 1 doubles, Taylor Hagen and Ben Heyen lost to Liechty and Ross 0-6, 2-6 in the first round, then defeated Britton and Walton of Sterling 9-6 and Koetter and Detter of Ellinwood 9-7 to place fifth.
