Faber 11th at state tourney

HHSbteStateFaber1 Hillsboro’s Harry Faber goes for the overhand smash against Shawn Nulik of Chaparral Friday afternoon at the Class 3-2-1A state tournament at the Sports Complex in Hillsboro. Faber, a senior, ended his HHS career with an 11th-place finish. After a solid start Friday, Hillsboro’s Harry Faber lost twice on Saturday to finish 11th at the Class 3-2-1A state tennis tournament this weekend in Hillsboro.

Paying on his home court, Faber earned a first-round bye because of his second-place finish in regionals a week earlier.

Advancing to the quarterfinals, the senior then defeated Shawn Nulik of Chaparral, 6-1, 6-3. Nulik entered the tournament with an 18-13 record.

Tabor College signs Pritchard for tennis

Hillsboro High School senior Jeff Pritchard signed a letter of intent last Wednesday to play tennis at Tabor College next year. Pritchard has primarily been a doubles play at HHS. He and partner Tyler Funk finished the current season with a 6-13 record. Seated with him is his father, Jon Pritchard. Behind them are (from left) Tabor coach John Ruder and Hillsboro coach Stuart Holmes.

Hillsboro High School senior Harry Faber signed a letter of intent last Wednesday to play tennis at Tabor College next year. Faber, a two-time all-league performer, placed ninth at the Class 3-2-1A state tournament a year ago and qualified last week for his second trip with a 20-8 record this spring. Seated with him are his parents, David and Connie Faber. Standing behind them (from left) are Tabor coach John Ruder and Hillsboro coach Stuart Holmes.

Canton-Galva—The Eagles split their games against Moundridge Monday.

Canton-Galva won, 5-4, in Game 1, using a four-run first inning to claim the lead thanks to a two-RBI hit by Chris Miller.

But Moundridge tied it at 4-4 with two runs in the seventh inning. Connor Farnham knocked out the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth that brought Jacob Struber home for the win.

Farnham went 2-for-4 at the plate and had one RBI. Miller was 1-for-4 and had two RBIs. Struber and Kaden Littrell also contributed one RBI apiece.

Farnham picked up the win, pitching all eight innings and giving up nine hits and four runs (three earned), while walking five and striking out three.

Centre—Centre’s competition at the Steve Herrmann Hering­ton Invitational Thursday was rescheduled for Saturday.

“Because of several conflicting activities, only a limited number of athletes from Centre participated Saturday, and most who did compete were not able to complete all of their events before they had to leave,” coach Alan Stahlecker said.

The boys placed ninth with 21 points. Peabody-Burns won the meet with 96.

Two second-place finishes fueled the Cougars: Grant Srajer in the long jump (17 feet, 11.5 inches) and the 4x100 team of Srajer, Justin Deines, Conner Montgomery and Houston Svoboda (49.9 seconds).

The girls, meanwhile, placed eighth with three points. Northern Heights won with 158.
