Marion’s cross-country team ran in blistering temperatures Thursday, where they joined 45 other teams from Class 1A to 6A at the Hesston Invitational.
“The runners did a good job overall,” coach Rebecca Hofer said. “Many of their times were slower then last year’s times at Hesston, so that tells me we still have some work to do.
“The weather was also quite a bit hotter, which might have been part of it.”
Jordan Hett led boys’ team, finishing fourth in the senior boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 27 seconds. Runners were divided by grade level due to the large number of participants.
Other runners included Patrick McCarty (14th, 19:08), Jacob Cope (24th, 19:40), Timothy Knolla (14th, 19:53), Clark Kroupa (31st, 21:04), Quinton Hett (23rd, 21:52), Jarred Hague (33rd, 22:50), Malachi Sippel (22nd, 25:17) and Nicholas Davies (53rd, 30:26).
McKenzee Remmers was the top finisher for the girls, placing 10th in 18:27. Also competing were Shyla Harris (40th, 24:06), Kaelyn Thierolf (13th, 18:47) and Erin Meirhoff (29th, 21:08).
