Hillsboro runners maintained the tradition of notching some of their fastest times of the year at the Berean Invitational cross-country meet Thursday at Harvey County Park East.

Ten of Hillsboro?s 15 high school and middle school runners clocked a career-best time, according to coach Stuart Holmes.

?In addition, seven of the 15 runners from our team also earned medals, so it was our team?s best meet of the year so far overall,? he said. ?Our runners competed with a lot of determination and grit, which resulted in an outstanding day.?

Holmes also credited cooler weather with fueling their determined effort.

As the school?s only varsity competitor, Jonathan Hinerman led the Trojans by placing seventh among 68 runners in the boys? 5-K race with a time of 18 minutes, 16 seconds, which was about 1:35 behind the winner, Caleb Kile of Mulvane.

Meanwhile, freshman Abby Driggers and senior Lydia Kliewer finished second and fourth, respectively, in the girls? junior varsity race between 25 runners.

Driggers lowered her 5K school record by 46 seconds with a time of 24:19?22 seconds behind the winner?while Kliewer finished in 25:23.

In the boys? JV race, Tristan Donaldson placed 16th (22:02), Caleb Rempel 21st (22:17), Samuel Damon 21st (22:20), Tucker Moss 22nd (22:28) and Avery Unruh 33rd (24:52) in a field of 53 runners.

Coming?Hillsboro runners are scheduled to compete at the Sterling Invitational Thursday.
