11 area players earn all-league

Seven Hillsboro Trojans and four Marion Warriors received all-league recognition by the coaches of the Mid-Central Activities Association.

For the boys, Hillsboro?s David Loewen and Clay Shewey made the first team while Daniel Jost and Gavin Serene received honorable mention.

Loewen, one of six unanimous choices, averaged 15.1 points and 10.8 rebounds for the 13-10 Trojans. Shewey averaged 16.5 points and 2.3 assists. Both are juniors.

Jost, a junior, averaged 9.7 points, 4.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 4.1 rebounds. Serene, a senior, averaged 7.7 points and shot a team-high 93 percent from the free-throw line. He averaged 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals.

For Marion, which finished 6-15, standout guard Calvin Jeffrey made the second team.

For the girls, sophomore Dakota Kaufman was selected for the first team. She averaged 13.1 points and 6.7 rebounds per game for the 9-13 Trojans.

Receiving honorable mention were seniors Amy Neufeld and Amanda Faber. Neufeld averaged 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while Faber averaged 6.1 points and 1.9 steals.

For the 12-11 Warriors, three sophomores received recognition. Julia Zeiner made the first team while Lindsay Hett and Kaylee Heerey received honorable mention.
