After the second outing of the season, Tabor College cross-country coach Brian Grime said his men?s and women?s teams are both making progress

The Bluejays competed at the Terry Masterson Classic Invitational in Hutchinson Saturday.

In the women?s 5-k race, two Bluejays finished in the top five.

Julie Loewen crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 21 minutes, 9.1 seconds. Katey Whitesell finished fifth in 21:16.

?Julie and Katey both went straight to the front and were not afraid to mix it up with the competition today,? Grime said. ?We weren?t worried at all about time today due to the slow course with its many tight turns, so we just focused on beating the person in front of us.?

Stacie Bell finished 40th in 26:40.8.

?Stacie Bell ran a great first 5-k, and she is just scratching the surface,??Grim said. ?Very promising races by these young ladies.?

Meanwhile, Bret Mueller paced the men in the 8-k race, finishing fifth in 28:33.9. Tyler Parrish placed 15th in 29:29.4.

?Bret Mueller ran great, really sticking his nose up front with some quality competition,? Grime said. ?Tyler Parrish was not too far behind. He has been getting better every week.?

Rounding out the team were:?Josh Richert 38th (31:42.3), Si Luc 40th (31:54.3), Mitchell Graf 55th (34:04.5) and Jared Janzen 65th (45:40.0).

?A great effort from the entire team today,??Grime said. ?It was a little warmer during the men?s race, which may have played a factor, but we looked very strong.

?As a whole, we are really starting to turn the corner with our training. Being the second race, even in back to back weeks, they are starting to see the progress being made.?

As a team, the Tabor men finished sixth of eight with 145 points. Barton won with 44.

Coming?Tabor will host an invitational at Marion Reservoir Sept. 25. The women?s race is scheduled for 5 p.m. The men will run at 5:45 p.m.?
