Thiessen claims Hillsboro Golf Club Championship

For the second year in a row, Anthony Thiessen claimed the title at the annual Hillsboro Golf Club Championship Aug. 4 and 5 at the Hillsboro Municipal Golf

Thiessen outplayed the other 40 participants by shooting rounds of 66 and 70 for a total of 136. Phillip Thiessen was runner-up with scores of 74 and 67 for a 141.

In the handicap champion­ship, John Bauers took first. Rounds of 80 and 75 resulted in a total net score of 131.4 for the weekend. Phillip Thiessen was handicap runner-up with a net score of 134.4.

Flight winners for the weekend were: Championship flight, Anthony Thiessen (136); First flight, Russ Cain (156); Second flight, John Bauers (155); and Third flight, Mark King (169).

The championship also serves as a qualifier for the Bruce-Crofoot Challenge Cup team. The 14 players with the best scores for the weekend automatically qualify for the team, which competes in September against players from Marion Country Club.
