Burrton man wins Memorial demo derby

Derek Euwer of Burrton won the Memorial Day Weekend Demo Derby, sponsored in part by the Marion County Fair Association on May 27.

The event drew 13 full-size cars to the fairgrounds in Hills­boro, eight entries in the adult division of the Figure 8 race, and three entries in the junior division.

Winners of the first preliminary heat for the full-size cars were Scott Schultz, Lehigh; Thayne Meier, Lehigh; and Weston Mizell, Canton. Winners in the second heat were Dustin Looney, Florence; Andrew Meier, Lehigh; and Euwer. Consolation heat winners were: Winston Elliott, Abilene; Rocky Engel, White City; and Chris Hamm, Haysville.

Placing after Euwer in the championship heat were Weston Mizell, Canton, second; Chris Hamm, Haysville, third; and Dustin Looney, Florence, fourth. The Mad Dog Winner was Scott Penner, Newton.

Placing in the adult division of the Figure 8 race were Julie Anderson, Hillsboro, first; Dean Suderman, Hillsboro, second; Lloyd Anderson, Hillsboro, third; and Asia Frye, Hillsboro, fourth.

The junior division Figure 8 winners were Jared Dyck, Hillsboro, first; Tristen Hett, Tampa, second; and Zach Anderson, Hillsboro, third.
