Canton-Galva—The Eagles competed as individuals at Lincoln. Race officials reduced both races to two miles due to the extreme heat.
Justin Hiller placed 11th in 13:37 to pace the Eagles. “Justin ran a smart race,” coach Lyle Silsby said. “He held back a little for the first mile and started passing people with about three-fourths of a mile left.
Eli Janzen finished 13th in 13:41. “He also ran a good, strategic race,” Silsby said. “We have been working on his finishing kick and he passed nine runners in the last half-mile.”
Helena Clausing finished her first cross-country race in 22:22.
“For her first race experience she did very well—108 degrees on a tough, hilly course. What a way to start,” Silsby said.
The Eagles are scheduled to run at Hesston Thursday.
