Marion 2nd at league swim meet

Her relay placed fifth. Marion’s swimmers brought some heat of their own on a sizzling-hot day Saturday at the league swim meet in Abilene, grabbing 10 first-place finishes and coming in second with 671 points.

Lindsborg took top honors with 944.5 and Hillsboro earned bronze with 530.5 points.

“I am very proud of how our team swam,” said coach Susan Hall. “I had asked the kids to just swim smart and clean and the fast would come. They did. We had some great finishes.”

Hillsboro-AFI 11-12 baseball team wins CVL championship

The Hillsboro-American Family Insurance 11-to-12-year-olds baseball team won the Cottonwood Valley League championship this summer with an 8-0 league mark. The team is 10-1 overall. Hillsboro coach leads swim team at a Fast pace

Hillsboro swim team coach and alum Courtney Fast returned for her third year coaching this season, taking her turn to share what she’s learned with another generation of swimmers.

“I wanted to pass along my knowledge of the sport to my kids, push them to get better and faster, while having fun and creating personal relationships with each swimmer,” Fast said. “I wouldn’t trade those relationships for the world.”

Fast is an accomplished swimmer in her own right, with an NAIA team national title under her belt with Fresno (Calif.) Pacific University.

Marion first, Hillsboro second at Hillsboro meet

Marion’s swimmers set the pace Saturday at their Hillsboro meet, taking first with 631.5 points. Hillsboro placed second with 469 and Hesston came in third with 312.5.

They are scheduled to travel to Abilene Saturday for league competition.

Following are the individual results for the Marion swimmers. Hillsboro results were not available at press time.
