Goessel’s Voth on NAIA academic champion golf team

Cameron Voth of Goessel was a member of the Bethel College golf team this spring that has been named academic national champion of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

To be considered for the honor, a team must submit a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Local girls on state champion team

Three girls from Hillsboro were members of the McPher­son Lady Express 16-and-under softball team that won the Amateur Softball Association state championship July 15 at the Trussler Sports Complex in Emporia. Pictured from left are Allison Weber, Emily Jost and Julie Sinclair. The team went undefeated in the tournament with wins over the Hutchinson Salt City Crush, Garden City Razzles and Wichita Thunder before beating Emporia Energy in the semifinals and then again for the title in a double-elimination format. Weber was the winning pitcher in the championship game.

 

12U fast pitch team takes 2nd in league

Last week the 12U girls fast pitch team took second in the Cottonwood Valley League and also finished second in the league’s post season tournament held in Hillsboro. Hillsboro swimmers 3rd at league

HSTEvaNoblegirls910medleyfly063 The Hillsboro swim team took home nine gold medals and a bronze team medal from the league swim meet in Abilene Saturday.

“We had a great meet,” said coach Courtney Fast. “Everyone swam great, and there were tons of dropped times. All day I heard, ‘Coach, I dropped seven seconds,’ ‘Coach, I dropped three seconds!’ It was great.”

The league meet concluded the swim team season.

CVL All-Stars qualify for 11-12 state baseball tournament

The Cottonwood Valley League All-Stars qualified for the 11-to-12-year-old Cal Ripken state tournament this weekend by winning the District 4 tournament at Peabody with a 3-1 record. The team lost its opening game, then came back with three wins to claim the title. The state tournament will begin Thursday in Paola.
