Centre— The?Cougars lost their second game of the season Friday, falling to league opponent Little River, 58-22.The Redskins struck early and often, racking up 20 points in the first quarter while keeping Centre scoreless. Each team put up eight points in the second quarter to make it 28-8.
Centre managed another six points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth, but Little River put up 30 points in the last half for the win.
The Redskins rolled up 211 yards rushing compared to the Cougars’ 181 yards.
Centre is scheduled to play Hope at home this Friday.

Canton-Galva—The Eagles competed as individuals at Lincoln. Race officials reduced both races to two miles due to the extreme heat.Justin Hiller placed 11th in 13:37 to pace the Eagles. “Justin ran a smart race,” coach Lyle Silsby said. “He held back a little for the first mile and started passing people with about three-fourths of a mile left.
Eli Janzen finished 13th in 13:41. “He also ran a good, strategic race,” Silsby said. “We have been working on his finishing kick and he passed nine runners in the last half-mile.”
Helena Clausing finished her first cross-country race in 22:22.
“For her first race experience she did very well—108 degrees on a tough, hilly course. What a way to start,” Silsby said.

Canton-Galva—The Eagles started their season with wins over Centre and Inman at the Inman Triangular Aug. 30.CGHS defeated Centre 25-16, 25-15, then knocked of the home team 25-19, 25-20.
“We came out with great energy and enthusiasm to start the season,” said coach Jake Sims. “First match with Centre was close early, but we pulled away late in both sets.
“Second match with Inman was a great contest. We were able to use several good serving streaks to hold and even extend the lead at times.”
The Eagles were scheduled to play a triangular Tuesday at Goessel, then will compete Saturday in the Centre Invitational.

Canton-Galva—The Eagles scored 28 points in the first quarter en route to a 46-0 whipping of Central Christian at home Friday. CGHS led 40-0 at halftime. The game was called in the third quarter when the Eagles added their final touchdown.Nick Vogts ran for touchdowns of 41, 33, 11, 32 and 70 yards. Austin Frank and Tyler Miller each scored one TD.
“We were clicking on all cylinders tonight,” coach Darrin Fisher said. “We moved the ball offensively like we wanted to. We still have a lot of areas to improve on but we are heading in the right direction.
“Defensively, it’s always nice to get a shutout. We were physical up front and linebackers played downhill nicely.”
