Chiefs need to draft offensive prospects

One thing was obvious last season for the Kansas City Chiefs: They need help at every position.

Chiefs talent evaluators camped out at the NFL combine are probably not missing many drills at any position to help weigh and balance what to do with the fifth overall pick in a deep draft.

If I were king of the KSHSAA...

The more I learn about the way the Kansas State High School Activities Association handles certain areas of high school athletics, the more I wonder why some things are done the way they are.

I ask myself:

• Why are points more important than head-to-head competition when it comes to football district play?

• Why does Class 4A have so many more schools than the other classes?

• Why do private schools not have a classification of their own?

• Why is there no all-class championship?

So, I’m going to take this opportunity to share how things would be done if I were king of the KSHSAA.

A change to the current classification system would offer solutions to those questions.

Super Bowl makes this the year's best time for sports

January is over and we are entering the most wonderful tme of year for sports, at least to me.

The Super Bowl kicks off on Sunday, college basketball is in the midst of conference play, teams are battling for the best possible position for March Madness, the high school basketball playoffs are coming up, and baseball is right around the corner.

With this hodge podge of sports in my brain I?have a few muddled thoughts on recent and upcoming events in the world of sports.

Sunflower Showdown—Kansas and Kansas State played a historic game Saturday night in the recently named “Octagon of Doom” (Bramlage Coliseum). Saturday’s game marked the first time since 1958 that both school were ranked that high nationally.
