The Tabor men’s bowling team placed ninth in a field of 24 at the NAIA Invitational in Indianapolis Friday and Saturday.
Competing for Tabor were Austin Jones, Daniel Brodell, Kyle Smith, Troy Berneburg, Hunter Harty and Tyler Hardin.
After bowling 20 qualifying games Friday, the Bluejays qualified 20th.
“We didn’t bowl well at all,” coach Todd Zenner said. “(We) never got into a rhythm as a team.”
Tabor dropped its first match against Martin Baptist 3-0.
The Bluejays found their rhythm the following day.
“(We) came back Saturday and bowled the best we have ever bowled as a team,” Zenner said. “I actually got to see my team perform to their ability and come together as a team.”
The Bluejays tied Ashford College at 2.5 games and won after two tie-breaker roll-offs in Round 3.
Tabor defeated Waldorf College 3-1 in the fourth round, but dropped to Indiana Tech 3-1 in Round 5 to earn the ninth-place finish.
“It was a huge weekend for the team, but it was a huge step in the right direction for the Tabor bowling program,” Zenner said. “We now can build on this and hopefully contend for a chance at the NAIA title next year.”
