The Tabor volleyball team rebounded this week with back-to-back-to-back wins over conference opponents Bethany, Bethel and Saint Mary to improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
“This was therapy for us,” said coach Amy Ratzlaff after Monday’s win against Bethany. “It’s just good to be at home. We needed to be here. It felt like volleyball is supposed to feel, with all the excitement and passion.”
Saint Mary—Tabor took care of business in Saturday’s match, taking down the Spires in three games (25-15, 25-22, 25-16).
Katie Vogts led both teams in kills with 16; Jessica Wollenberg added eight, Jessie Vogts six and Shelby Spencer and Katelin Horstick five each.
Setter Hollister Wolf set up the attack with 37 assists, helping Tabor to 41 kills. She also led the defensive effort with 16 digs. Amy Jo Maphet added 13. Horstick managed four blocks and Wollenberg three.
Bethel—Tabor got the better of its conference rival Thursday, defeating the Threshers, 25-17, 25-20, 25-22.
Three Tabor hitters recorded double-digit kills. Katie Vogts led with 14, and Jessie Vogts and Katelin Horstick each added 11.
Hollister Wolf had 45 assists, setting up 49 Bluejay kills.
Amy Jo Maphet and Katie Vogts anchored the Bluejay defense, combining for 33 digs. Jessica Wollenberg contributed three blocks.
Bethany—Tabor dominated the visiting Swedes Monday, Sept. 24, in three games, 25-21, 25-11, 25-7.
“We’re trying not to worry about perfection, just playing with passion and playing hard,” coach Amy Ratzlaff said. “And I felt like they did that tonight.”
The third game was capped by 21 straight points served by Amy Jo Maphet, who also led the defense with 16 digs. Abbey Burns added nine digs, and Katie Vogts and Whitney Maple each added seven.
Freshman Katelin Horstick recorded 12 kills to lead the Bluejays. Jessie Vogts added 10, Katie Vogts eight Jessica Wollenberg six. Hollister Wolf was credited with 24 assists. Maple chipped in 14.
Coming—The Bluejays were scheduled to hit the road Tuesday to take on conference opponent Sterling before hosting Southwestern Friday.
Matches start at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Friday.
