Bluejay men fall to 0-5 with recent losses

The Tabor men’s basketball team is still looking for its first win after the 0-5 Bluejays dropped a contest with Benedictine College Tuesday before going winless at the Tiger Classic this weekend, hosted by Doane College.

Tabor took on Hastings College Saturday after playing the host team Friday.

“We are not completely healthy and have been using multiple lineups to survive the non-conference season,” said coach Micah Ratzlaff.

“So hopefully sooner than later we can get some consistent play and get on track.”

Tiger Classic—Tabor lost two non-conference contests with undefeated teams this weekend at Doane College in Crete, Neb.

TC women pick up first win of the season

Tabor’s Hannah Paust goes up for a basket to tie the game in the second half of Tabor’s 70-58 defeat of Park University Wednesday. The Tabor women picked up a come-from-behind win over non-conference opponent Park University Wednesday in the Bluejay’s home opener, before dropping two at the Midland Lutheran Classic this weekend to Jamestown College and the host team.

“We need to not be satisfied with that,” said coach Shawn Reed after Wednesday’s win.

“We need to be taking strides forward. There are no moral victories, we want real victories, and we earned one against a good team.”

Tabor now has a 1-4 record in non-conference play.

Midland Classic—Tabor absorbed back-to-back losses to strong non-conference teams at the Midland Lutheran Classic this weekend, falling by three to the host team and then to nationally-ranked Jamestown College.

Men’s soccer runner-up in KCAC tourney championship

The Tabor men’s soccer team earned its best finish in recent years, finishing runner-up in the KCAC championship tournament with a loss 4-2 to Kansas Wesleyan University on Satur­day.

After earning a first-round bye, the Bluejays defeated Ottawa University, 4-1, in the semifinals to advance to the finals.

Tabor finishes its season with a No. 2 standing in the KCAC and a conference record of 7-2. The Bluejays were 13-7 overall.

Graduating seniors include: Derick Burkhard, Ben Clark, Andre Vestfahl, David Simmet, Spencer Nemnich, David Ewert and Sergio Torres.

Bluejays clipped by top-seeded Ottawa

KCAC Player of the Year Katie Vogts goes for the kill against No. 1 Ottawa University in the conference tournament semifinals Friday. The Braves swept Tabor, 3-0, and beat Kansas Wesleyan in three in the championship to advance to the national tournament. The fourth-seeded Tabor volleyball team ended its season in the KCAC semifinals Friday night as the Bluejays fell on the road to top-seeded Ottawa University.

The loss comes after the Bluejays earned a tough five-game win over No. 5 seed Sterling College at home in the quarterfinals.

“Those are memories that I just wouldn’t trade for the world,” said coach Amy Ratzlaff after the quarterfinal win.

“God is good. He has brought us through a lot this season. We have had so much heartbreak. It was a hard start to the year.

“And to see it come full circle and just giving it 110 percent is just a blessing.”
