TC soccer teams start 2007 low

With a new head coach taking the helm, the Tabor College soccer teams slipped to the bottom of the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference preseason coaches polls.

The Bluejay men finished sixth with a conference record of 4-5 in 2006 but dropped to ninth place in the initial ranking. The slide put the team just ahead of a Bethany College squad that went 0-9 last season.

On the women’s side, Tabor was picked in last place after finishing in a tie for ninth place with the 1-8 Bethel Threshers.

“I was surprised the coaches picked us that low, especially on the men’s side,” first-year coach Grant Brubacher said. “But I think that’s more of a reflection on the coaching change than the talent level of the team.”

Bluejay men's track signs two from Texas

Two Waco, Texas, high school classmates have signed letters of intent to participate in the Tabor College track and field program this coming year.

Warren McKamey Jr., who also plans to compete in cross country, is 6 foot 3 inches, 158-pounds. He ran the 200 meters, 400 meters, long jump and triple jump at Connally High School in Waco.

McKamey was a regional qualifier every year of his high school career, and was captain of his team as a senior.

“I believe Warren will add a lot to our men’s team both on the track and on campus,” said Dave Kroeker, Tabor track and field coach. “We’re looking for him to make a real impact in middle distance races and on our relay teams,” Kroeker added.

Bluejays picked fifth in ’07 KCAC coaches, media polls

Friends University, winners of nine straight regular season games at the end of 2006, claimed the top spot in both the coaches and media polls at the annual Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference 2007 football media day Friday in Salina.

Tabor was rated fifth in both polls on the heels of a tumultuous season during which the Bluejays collected a 5-4 record in conference play and went 6-4 overall.

The consensus among KCAC coaches and media is that Friends, Kansas Wesleyan, Bethel and Sterling all have stronger teams than Tabor.

But preseason polls aren’t always accurate. Bethel College was picked seventh by the media and eighth by the coaches a year ago—but climbed to the top of the standings and defeated Friends in a post season...

TC volleyball reloads with 10 recruits

“Tabor volleyball will certainly have a different face this year after graduating six key players,” Ratzlaff said.

“However, with 10 high- quality new players and talented returners, our goal is to play volleyball in such a way that we still look like Tabor volleyball. We are as excited as ever to get everyone together on one court.”

Of Ratzlaff’s 10 recruits, six are from Kansas, two from Colorado and one each from Nebraska and Arkansas.
