Tabor men beat Bethany, lose to McPherson

Despite deficits of 10-15 and 60-67, the Bluejay men made short work of the Swedes, winning 92-82. Bethany was picked fourth by the conference coaches. The conference coaches picked the Bluejays ninth in preseason polls.

The men were defeated by McPherson, 64-57 Saturday night in McPherson. McPherson was picked seventh in both pre-season polls.

McPherson—Jordan Funk scored 13 points Friday and was the only Bluejay in double-digits.

Tabor women clip McPherson after falling to Bethany

Tabor men defeat Central Bible to earn a split at Missouri tourney

The Tabor College men’s basketball team went 1-1 in its final non-conference tune-up games at the Central Missouri State tournament held in Warrensberg, Mo. over the weekend.

The Bluejays lost 92-46 in a difficult matchup against the hosts Friday, and won a more manageable game against Central Bible by a score of 68-64 on Saturday.

Central Missouri—Tabor got off to a strong start on defense, forcing misses on each of Central Missouri’s first four possessions.

Aaron Whitelaw gave the Jays a 2-0 lead 109 seconds into the game, but Central Missouri gained the lead for good 1:08 later, when Carvelle Taylor put in a 3-pointer off a pass from Josiah Miller.

The Tabor College men’s basketball team defeated Bacone 78-76 at home Nov. 13. The Bluejays then went winless at the Sterling Classic, losing to Columbia College 69-52 Friday and Texas Wesleyan 74-68 Saturday.

Texas Wesleyan—When Jared Hett rebounded and put back a Kyle de Blonk miss with seven seconds left, Tabor took a 37-36 lead at the end of a furious first half that saw five ties and five lead changes.

The Tabor College women’s basketball team started last week with a 105-50 exhibition loss at Emporia State Nov. 12 and went 0-2 at the Sterling Classic.

College of the Ozarks defeated the Bluejays 86-65 at Sterling on Saturday, and Saint Gregory’s edged Tabor 69-65 on Friday.

“I think we’re a ways away from playing our best basketball, and I think that’s a good thing considering our circumstances,” coach Shawn Winter said. “We really have a new team this year and we knew it would take a while to come together. But we’re starting to see more and more...
