Raising uniform funds a real 'Challenge'

The fundraising event, held March 26-27, pits the returning Bluejays in a friendly competition against one another in five events: 40-yard dash, 1-mile run, bench press, squat and clean lifts. Jackson’s clean was a personal best, and the senior earned a 20/20 score in the event. He posted an aggregate score of 95 out of 100 possible points. Fellow seniors Kyle Basinger, Seth Mills and Lance Stubbs each met the 20-point benchmark in four events to record aggregate scores in the 90-plus range. Tabor tops ranked Swedes

Hillsboro’s young baseball team started its season with an unexpected 6-4 win over Wichita Collegiate on Friday at Memorial Field.

Collegiate came back to win the nightcap, 13-5.

The difference between the two games was pitching. In the opener, junior left-hander Isaac Leihy (1-0) went the complete seven innings for the Trojans, scattering nine hits, walking only two while striking out six.

In Game 2, a cadre of four Trojans hurlers combined to allow one fewer hit than Leihy, but walked 18 batters, including 10 by starter Jacob Edwards (0-1) through 11⁄3 innings.

With warmer weather than the previous meet offered, the Tabor College track team performances showed significant improvement on Friday, March 21 at Lindsborg. The day was highlighted by the Bluejays getting the first of what coach Dave Kroeker hopes will be many athletes qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Meet.

Kroeker believes this year’s women’s team could take the conference title away from defending champion South­western.

Dana Champlin, a senior from Concordia, threw the javelin 128 feet, 11inches to become the first national meet qualifier of the young outdoortrack season.

Tabor 3-3 vs. Waldorf, Friends and Sterling

The Tabor College baseball team posted a 3-3 record through six games of a nine-game homestand. Tabor swept Waldorf on Wednesday, March 19, rallying from an 11-run deficit to win 18-17, then hammered the visitors 19-7 the next day. The Bluejays split with Friends on March 21, winning the opener 12-10, but losing the second game, 11-1. Tabor dropped both games to Sterling the following day by scores of 6-4 and 12-8.

Tabor scored 49 runs in the three wins, but was limited to 13 in thethree losses. Tabor is 10-6 when scoring five or more runs, but 0-9when scoring four or fewer.
