TC breaks Spires to secure quartfinal berth

TCmFunkP2236518.jpg TCmFunkP2236518.jpg The Tabor College men’s basketball team came within a millimeter of dodging a play-in game in this week’s Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament.

But an unlucky bounce on the last shot at Kansas Wesleyan left Tabor trailing 72-71 at the buzzer, setting up Monday’s meeting with Saint Mary in Hillsboro.

Tabor scored 44 points in the second half of a 57-44 win over the Spires on Monday. Tabor defeated Sterling 64-60 Thursday.Saint Mary

Trailing 28-13 after the first half, the Bluejays knocked the Spires lead to dust in the first 10:20 of the second half.

TC loses last two games of regular season

tcw-KansasWesleyan.jpg tcw-KansasWesleyan.jpg With a pair of losses this week, the Tabor College women’s basketball team heads into the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference post-season tournament with a three-game losing streak.

Kansas Wesleyan defeated Tabor, 54-41, Saturday in Salina, and Sterling beat the Bluejays, 54-38, on their home court Thursday. Kansas Wesleyan


The Coyotes jumped on top with a 2-pointer 30 seconds into the game and fought off two ties to carry that advantage through the final buzzer. Katie Fast tied the game both times: at 2-2 at 15:58 and at 4-4 at 14:51.

Tabor’s next score came 3:13 later, with the Bluejays trailing 14-4 after three straight 3-point baskets—one of which turned into a 4-point play when Emily Luckeroth was fouled during her...

Area Girls Basketball (Week of Feb. 27, 2008)

Centre—Behind 16 points from Shelby Deines and 10 from Carlye Simons, the Cougars defeated Elyria 42-34 in the regular season finale Feb. 19.

Centre cruised to a 26-16 first-half lead and matched Elyria shot for shot the rest of the way.

Goessel—The Bluebirds wrecked Hamilton 49-24 Feb. 19 in Goessel.

KatieFlaming scored 14 points and Aspen Frey scored six of her nine pointsin a first quarter that tilted 24-3 in Goessel’s favor.

With the game well out of reach, Hamilton outscored Goessel 11-4 during the fourth quarter.

Goessel’sseason ended Friday against White City. The Huskies defeated Goessel38-25 behind 19 points from Kacey Kasten. Aspen Frey scored 11 for theBluebirds.

2 Bluejays qualify for NAIA Indoor Meet

Breanna Wray, a junior from Walsh, Colo., and Tasia Johnson, a sophomore from Dallas, Texas, will represent Tabor College at the NAIA Indoor National Track and Field Meet on March 6-8 in Johnson City, Tenn.

Wray qualified in the 20-pound weight throw with a throw of 50 feet Feb. 23 at the Kansas State Open.

Johnson qualified in both the 60- and 200-meter dashes. She ran her 60-meter time Feb. 23 at Kearney State and her 200-meter qualifying time Feb. 22 at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln.

Johnson’s times were 7.82 in the 60 and 25.8 in the 200.

 

Trojan senior signs for Tabor volleyball

Corissa Bartel, a senior on this season’s league champion, 31-6 volleyball team at Hillsboro High School, signed a letter of intent Feb. 8 to participate in volleyball at Tabor College this fall.
