Tabor men and women take first McPherson meet

The Tabor College track and field squads swept the team titles and turned in a handful of notable performances during their first meet of the season in McPherson Saturday.

“The first meet of the year is always a little scary because both coaches and athletes don't know what to expect,” coach Dave Kroeker said. “It was pretty cold and windy until late in the meet so good performances were made even more difficult.”

Road sweep sets up big week for Jays

TaborOttowaG1.jpg TaborOttowaG1.jpg The Tabor College baseball team opened conference play with one bang after another, pounding out 26 hits in last Wednesday’s doubleheader at Ottawa. Tabor’s Saturday games against Friends were rained out, setting the stage for a stretch of nine home games in six days.

“It’s going to challenge the pitching staff, but we’ve got enough arms rested that it’s not going to affect us greatly,” coach Chad Newhard said.

“We’re going to have to have some guys step up and play every game because of our lack of depth, so it’s important that we don’t run into knickknack injuries,” he noted. “We played seven games in four days in Texas earlier in the year—our guys are resiliant enough, and they showed...

Trojans fill nine slots in wrestling

Nine Hillsboro Trojans and eight Marion Warriors received recognition as all-league wrestlers this season in the Mid-Central Activities Association.

Four Trojans were named to the first team: Nicholas Mueller at 135 pounds, Tyler Jones at 145, Jacob Yoder at 189 and CJ Shaw at 285.

Five Trojans received honorable mention: Alex Jost at 112, Robbie McClelland at 125, Grady Stultz at 152, Frankie Martin at 171 and John Hein at 215.

Named to the first team from Marion were Adam Regnier at 130 pounds and Derek Riggs at 215.

Receiving honorable mention were Andy Shipman at 119, Cody Wildin at 125, Dillon Wildin at 135, Charlie Holub at 145, Hank Collett at 152 and Tylor Neil at 140.

TC splits non-conference tuneups at Central Christian Saturday

The Tabor College baseball squad went 1-4 this week, going winless against MidAmerica Nazarene and William Jewell, then splitting a doubleheader Saturday with Central Christian in McPherson.

“As a whole, at this time of the season, it’s pretty obvious—when we play good baseball, that’s when we compete,” coach Chad Newhard said. “But when we give teams extra outs with walks and errors, that’s when we have a hard time competing.”

William Jewell tops both TC tennis teams 7-2

ABOVE RIGHT: Bluejay senior Laurel Delamater dials up yet another effective serve against Sydnee Mela. Delamater was the only Bluejay volleyer to win a singles match Saturday.

The Tabor College tennis teams measured themselves against a squad visiting from William Jewell Saturday in Hillsboro. The Cardinals defeated the Bluejays 7-2 on both the men’s and women’s side.

The Tabor men garnered match wins at the hands of Shane Miller and doubles duo Andy Adrian and Aaron Friesen.
