DSC0180 Ryan Chippeaux draws a foul in the second half of Tabor’s quarterfinal matchup against Ottawa. Chippeaux scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Bluejays’ 69-53 loss to the Braves. The No. 2 seeded Tabor men couldn’t get things going in Friday’s quarterfinal matchup against No. 7 Ottawa. The Bluejays trailed by five at the half, and the game ended with Tabor on the short side of a 69-53 score.

The lead changed hands in the opening minutes, but Tabor’s last lead, 6-4, came with 16:31 left in the first half when Chance LeBlanc drained a three-point basket.

A Cameron Rust three-pointer later tied the game at nine, but the Braves surged 7-0 before Marc Hopkinson contributed a basket behind the arc at 11:42 to draw within 16-12.

The Braves answered with a three-point basket, but Tabor found a small spark when JT Nemit cashed in a traditional three-point play and a Bluejay steal led to a Ryan Chippeaux score...

DSC0290 Amber Tamez scores to open the second half, bringing Tabor within one, 25-24, in Saturday’s semifinal game against Southwestern. Tamez led the Bluejays with 10 points in Tabor’s 57-46 loss. The Tabor women’s post-season run ended Saturday, as the visiting third seed, Southwestern, edged the No. 2 Bluejays, 57-46.

Despite the disappointment the loss brings, coach Shawn Reed praised the efforts of his team during a season of adversity.

“I don’t think anyone has ever accomplished what our team has in one year in our league,” Reed said. “I’ve been a part of this league for 15-plus years, and I can’t ever remember anybody going from 7-21 to 20-10 and one game out of winning the conference and going to nationals.

“And we lost our best player—conference player of the year (Janelle Rust)—and we still hung in there and fought. I just think it’s a testimony to the character of our kids. I’m really proud...

TCwbbKWLewisbw Nikki Lewis drives toward the basket in Tabor’s 81-77 victory at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday. Lewis led the Bluejay attack with a game-high 26 points. Tabor enters the post-season tournament seeded second and will face No. 7 Ottawa Thursday at 7 p.m. The Tabor women found their spark at the end of the first half Saturday night and held on for an 81-77 victory at Kansas Wesleyan.

It was a slow start for the Bluejays, however, as the Coyotes surged to a 16-4 double-digit lead eight minutes into the game. But after a Tabor timeout, the Bluejays used a 7-0 run to draw within five, 16-11, when Nikki Lewis drained a three-point basket.

Lewis contributed two more baskets behind the arc in the next three minutes, helping Tabor narrow the Coyote lead to 21-19 with 6:54 left in the half.

But Kansas Wesleyan built a nine-point, 32-23, lead at 2:46 when Tabor shots refused to fall.

But the Bluejays turned on the heat in the final minutes of the half, outscoring the home team 11-1 to take a...

TCmbbKWbrentbw Brent Jackson shoots for two late in Saturday’s contest at Kansas Wesleyan. Jackson came off the bench to score a game-high 30 points to help lead Tabor to an 84-79 victory. With the win, Tabor secured second place in the KCAC and enters the post-season tournament this week as the No. 2 seed. Tabor’s 84-79 victory at Kansas Wesleyan Saturday helped the Bluejays secure the No. 2 seed in the KCAC postseason tournament and end the regular season second in the conference behind Saint Mary.

“I’m glad we got our win, and I’m really proud of our seniors,” coach Micah Ratzlaff said. “I’m really proud of Ryan Chippeaux, Lawson Kingsley and Michael Janzen. They’ve been with me for four years, and they’ve been good leaders for the rest of our guys.”

Tabor fell behind to start Saturday’s game, with the Coyotes bursting to a double-digit, 13-3, lead five minutes into the contest.

But Tabor began to close the gap, and when the Coyotes could not hit a shot, sure-fire shooting helped the Bluejays explode with a...
