TC tennis 2-2 for the week, takes Friends

The Tabor tennis teams split their games last week, with two losses to Baker University Tuesday followed by a sweep of Friends University Saturday.

Friends—The Bluejays opened conference play with two victories Saturday.

The men defeated Friends 8-1 to improve to 1-0 in the KCAC, 3-6 overall.

David Simmet and Nate Panttaja dropped an 8-3 contest to Eric Berner and Patrick Trollman in No. 1 doubles, but Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort picked up an 8-1 win over Blake Stuckey and Zack Stein in the No. 2 spot.

Jake Brucks and Sam Brucks defeated Jacob Thayer and Rodridgo Tresierra, 8-1 to round out the doubles matches.

“Our No. 2 and 3 doubles teams played extremely well, giving us a 2-1 lead going into singles,” coach John Ruder said...

Tabor baseball riding 10-game win streak

TCbsbKWCoronahomer2 Art Corona, Tabor’s lead-off hitter, celebrates a home run to open the bottom of the first inning in Tabor’s 9-1 home win against Kansas Wesleyan Thursday. The Tabor Bluejay baseball team is on a 10-game winning streak, aided by a four-game sweep of KCAC foe Kansas Wesleyan (5-11, 16-17) last week.

Kansas Wesleyan—With two wins against the Coyotes already under their belt, the Bluejays traveled to Salina Saturday for a second doubleheader, where the outcome remained the same.

Tabor picked up a 6-5 win in Game 1 and followed with an 11-0 shutout in Game 2.

It took an extra inning for the Bluejays to get things done in Saturday’s first game after the Coyotes came back to tie the game at four with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

But Tabor outscored Kansas Wesleyan, 2-1, in the eighth inning to seal the one-point victory.

Tabor softball loses first KCAC games

The Tabor College softball team went 0 for 4 in its first week of conference play, losing doubleheaders to Kansas Wesleyan and Bethany for a 5-17 season record.

Kansas Wesleyan—The Bluejays, playing at home, lost to the Coyotes (4-0, 21-4) Saturday, 9-1 and 10-3.

In Game 1, Kansas Wesleyan jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings. By the time Tabor’s Kyleen Condon hit a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Coyotes had already accumulated nine runs.

Five Bluejays recorded hits: Brittney Dymnioski, Chelsea Nutt, Katie Henning, Condon and Sarah Massey.

On the mound, starter Karen Harris pitched 3.1 innings and allowed six hits and eight runs (four earned) with no strikeouts and five walks.

TC track competes at Emporia State

The Tabor track and field teams took part in the Emporia State University Invitational Saturday, where their competitors included athletes from schools such as Kansas, Kansas State and Emporia State.

“Overall, I was pleased with the performances of both the men’s and women’s teams in the meet,” coach Dave Kroeker said. “The meet after spring break—and not competing last week—always is a little tough to get back into competition mode, but we did that fairly well.”

Two Bluejays paved the way for the Tabor women with first place finishes: Brielle Lund in the 1,500-meter run (4 minutes, 57.37 seconds) and Emily Post in the triple jump (37 feet, 8 inches).

TC baseball takes four from Ottawa

TCBsBOttawaReid Shaun Reid slides into second in an attempted double but was called out. The Bluejays won 5-0 in Game 1 of Tabor’s sweep of Ottawa. The Tabor College baseball team swept its four-game series with Ottawa last week to improve to 9-1 in the KCAC and 18-8 overall.

The Bluejays opened with a 5-0 victory in Game 1 Thursday at home. Kevin Seeger knocked out two hits in three at-bats, including a double. Seeger also had two RBIs.

Grant Silva recorded two hits and one run in three at-bats and also had two RBIs.

Keenan Chanin added one hit and scored a run in two at-bats, while Shaun Reid recorded one hit and one RBI.

On the mound, Josh Stone (5-1) was Tabor’s winning pitcher. He pitched six innings, allowing two hits and no runs or walks while striking out eight batters.

Tabor followed with a 3-1 victory in Game 2. Ottawa scored its only run in the top of the first...
