Tabor tennis faces 3 conference foes

Jake Brucks sends the ball over the net in the No. 3 doubles match he and his brother, Sam Brucks, played against Bethel Thursday. The brothers dropped the match, 8-5, but later went on to gain Tabor’s only win of the day by defeating their opponents in No. 5 and No. 6 singles. The Tabor tennis teams faced three conference opponents last week, with the men winning two of three and the women dropping all three contests.

Southwestern—The Bluejays traveled to Southwestern Saturday. The men won 8-1 over the 0-3, 1-13 Moundbuilders, and the women fell, 5-4, to a Southwestern team holding a 2-1 KCAC record, 6-7 overall.

Scores are as follows: Kelyn Vix and Tyler Dort defeated Josh Sapp and Max Manley, 8-5; Nate Panttaja and Jared Friesen defeated Nick Morris and Michael Bond, 8-4; and Sam Brucks and Darryn Davis beat Jessie Riggs and Taylor Satterthwaite, 8-2.

Tabor softball gains 4 KCAC victories

Ashton Bowen throws to first during Tabor’s doubleheader at York College (Neb.) Monday. The Bluejays split the games, dropping Game 1, 4-2, and winning, 12-11, in Game 2. The Tabor softball team picked up four conference wins last week with wins over Bethel and McPherson and split two games at York Monday to improve to 6-6 in the KCAC, 12-22 overall.

“We keep on battling and are making the sure outs to keep us in the game and give us a chance to win,” coach Suzanne Unruh said. “We have had timely hitting to score runs when we have opportunities to score.”

York—Tabor traveled to York College Monday, where the Bluejays split a doubleheader.

Tabor lost Game 1, 4-2.

The Bluejays’ two runs came in the top of the fourth inning.

Katie Henning knocked out a double followed by a Kyleen Condon single. Henning scored on a Sarah Massey single.

Tabor softball gains first two KCAC wins

Sterling—Tabor picked up two wins at Sterling (2-4, 14-14) Saturday.

“We fought the whole time and didn’t give up,” coach Suzanne Unruh said. “Our bats came alive on Saturday, finally.

“I was pleased with our offense.”

Tabor defeated the Warriors 11-9 in Game 1.

Sterling claimed a 4-1 lead after two innings and led 6-4 after four. But the Bluejays outscored Sterling 6-1 in the next two innings to take the lead for good.

Kyleen Condon and Katie Henning each scored a home run in the game.

Henning knocked out four hits (including a double) in five batting opportunities and had four RBIs, while Condon recorded two hits and two RBIs.

Annie King contributed two doubles that batted in three runs.

Post garners wins at Hutch Night Relays

The Tabor track and field teams found success Saturday competing at the Hutchinson Night Relays.

“Warm weather plus light winds usually equal good days on the track and in the field,” coach Dave Kroeker said. “This surely held true for both the Tabor men and women.”

The Tabor women were led by senior Emily Post—KCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, who swept the triple jump (39 feet, 4.5 inches, new school record), long jump (18-8) and high jump (5-7.25, new school record) with three first-place finishes.

Post’s triple jump currently ranks first in the NAIA, her high jump, second and her long jump, third. She has qualified to compete at the NAIA Outdoor Championships in all three jumping events.
