Collegiate baseball teams compete on Tabor’s field

Tabor College was the site of a collegiate summer baseball game featuring the Junction City Brigade and the Kansas Cannons June 11. The game was played at Tabor because of a scheduling conflict with the Cannons’ home field in Andover, and the Cannons claimed an 11-6 victory in the game. Above, the Cannons’ Tyler Price fires a pitch in the top of the fourth inning.
Proffit signs with Johnson County

Tyler Proffitt, a recent Hillsboro High School graduate, signed a letter of intent Saturday to compete in track and field at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City. Proffitt won the Class 3A gold medal at in pole vault last month after placing fifth the previous year. His career-best vault was 14 feet, 1 inch. Seated with him is his mother, Jennifer Proffit; standing are his father, Scott Proffitt, and Dennis Boldt, Hillsboro head track and field coach.
Tabor competes at national track

Nine Tabor College track and field athletes competed at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 23-25 in Marion, Ind.“The kids all represented Tabor College and themselves very well and competed hard,” coach Dave Kroeker said. “The national track meet is a reminder that there are a lot of gifted athletes in the NAIA, and just being there is quite an accomplishment.”
Emily Post was Tabor’s top finisher, earning All-American honors by tying for eighth place in the NAIA in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 41⁄4 inches. At the KCAC meet, Post cleared 5-7.
Post did not advance to finals in her other two events. She finished 10th in the triple jump preliminaries (38-2) and 20th in the long jump (17-3⁄4). At the...

Tabor hosted the KCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Joel H. Wiens Stadium Monday and Tuesday.“The men’s and women’s teams rose to the occasion and really performed well at our conference meet,” coach Dave Kroeker said.
For the men, 14 top-three finishers led the team to a second-place finish with 149 points behind Friends (182) in a field of 10 teams.
The Bluejay men enjoyed four gold medals: Michael Klaassen in the hammer (163 feet, 83⁄4 inches) and the shot put (47-33⁄4), Garrett Daugherty in the 1,500 (3 minutes, 59.99 seconds, a new school record), and the 4x800 team of Bret Mueller, Daugherty, Phillip Magos and Nathan Vogel (7:43.72, fourth best in the NAIA, and a new school record).

It was a good run for the Tabor baseball team this weekend at the NAIA National Baseball Championship Tournament opening round in Santa Clarita, Calif.The only midwest team in the bracket, Tabor fell just short of reaching the championship game, falling to San Diego Christian in 10 innings.
“I was very happy with the way we played,” coach Mark Standiford said. “We were one hit away from winning every game.
“I cannot be prouder of my team and the way they represented Tabor.”
Tabor opened the tournament with a victory over Concordia (Ore.) then fell to the No. 1 seed The Master’s (Calif.) to once again face Concordia.
