BASEBALL

Canton-Galva?The Eagles opened the Class 2-1A regional hosted by Moundridge with a 6-5 victory over Chase County Monday.

Nick Bray earned the pitching win, scattering five hits and three runs over five innings of work while walking four batters and striking out seven. Reed Wiens and Connor Farnham pitched in relief.

?Nick really pitched well in getting his first win on the year,? coach Kelly Nelson said. ?Except for his first game of the year, he has really pitched as good as anybody but we just haven?t supported him enough to get him the wins he deserves.?

Farnham and Ethan Loyd were each 2-for-3 at-bat. Loyd had one RBI. Farnham hit a double. Tanner Klingensmith led the Eagles in runs batted in with two.

?We hit a lot of balls hard, but their outfielders made some good catches to keep us from scoring more runs,? Nelson said.

The Eagles? semifinal game with Inman was postponed from Tuesday to Thursday. Canton-Galva lost that game, 5-4.

Starter Tanner Klingensmith absorbed the pitching loss, giving up two hits and three runs. Connor Farnham pitched in relief, giving up one hit and two runs while striking out five.

?We walked too many, as we gave up 12 free bases,? Nelson said. ?We only allowed three hits, and four of the runners that scored were given a free base.?

Nick Bray was 2-for-4 at-bat, including a double, and had two RBIs.

The Eagles conclude the season with an overall record of 6-12.
